He was speaking to the participants of Seventh Asia-Pacific Intelligence Chiefs’ Conference (APICC), who had called on him at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.

“Our people have learnt to live in harmony with nature and with each other. Yet, like any other society, there are a few misguided people who, at times, break the peace. Our people and government have shown their determination to root out such individuals or groups. The Government of Bangladesh has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards these groups and individuals,” the president said.

Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh had willingly partnered with the international community to defeat these people.

“APICC is one such effort that surely will strengthen our collective effort in enhancing peace and security in the region,” he said.

Abdul Hamid hoped that the success of the seventh APICC would build partnership not only among the intelligence communities of the region but will also create opportunities for wider cooperation among the participating nations.

US Defence Intelligence Agency Director Douglas H Wise and DGFI Director General Maj Gen Akbar Hossain also addressed the meeting.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had inaugurated the conference at a city hotel on Tuesday.
